The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has humbly entreated members of the party who he might have wronged to forgive him.
He noted that having served as national chairman of the party for four years, there was no denying the fact that he might have stepped on some few toes in the party in the discharge of his duties.
Contending that it is not an intention of any leader to offend his followers, Mr. Mac Manu persuaded members of the party to wholeheartedly embrace his request for forgiveness. �As a human being, I don�t want to deceive myself that I did not step on the toes of any member of our great party in the course of my work, that is why I am pleading with you to forgive and forget,� he emphasized.
As he soberly pleaded for forgiveness from those he might have wronged, the former Western regional chairman of the party also declared that he has unconditionally forgiven any member of the party who might have offended him.
Speaking at the Ashanti regional delegates� congress in Kumasi on Monday, Mr. Mac Manu intimated that unity of purpose was what the party needs to unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 elections.
In view of this, the national chairman entreated members of the party to desist from the harmful practice of aligning themselves with individuals in the party and rather rally behind the elephant family.
According to him, this welcoming feat can only be achieved when members of the party forgive the offences of each other and let bygones be bygones
�No matter the magnitude of the offence your brother or sister in this party would commit against you, try to swallow them because it is the only cause we can pursue to come back to power,� Mr. Mac Manu enjoined members of the party.
Commenting on the congress, the national chairman noted that he was extremely delighted that in spite of persistent mishaps, the congress had finally come to pass.
Stressing that the task ahead in 2012 was a daunting one, Mr. Mac Manu implored the delegates to entrust their mandate to persons whose loyalty, commitment and dedication were not in doubt.
He entreated candidates who might not be successful in their ambition to serve the party at the regional level not to perceive their loss as punishment in the hands of the delegates.
Rather, the former Western regional chairman of the party enjoined the losers to relegate their loss to the background and give the winners a helping hand to ensure that the party grows from strength to strength in the region.
�We must recognize that this is an election and in elections, all the contestants cannot emerge as winners, so we must be prepared as candidates to accept whatever outcome that would come our way,� Mr. Mac Manu stated.
He stressed that the party needs the efforts and contribution of all and sundry to be able to wrestle power from the ruling NDC, saying everyone was important for the party�s success.
Though he would not seek re-election in the party�s upcoming national delegates� congress slated for February 27, Mr. Mac Manu promised that he would continue to serve the party with all his might.
He vowed never to hesitate to render valuable service to the party at all times, declaring that his loyalty, commitment and dedication would forever remain with the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
Mr. Mac Manu thanked members of the party for giving him the respectable honour to serve the party as national chairman, emphasizing that he was most grateful for the glorious opportunity.
Seven hundred and twenty four delegates drawn from the 39 constituencies in the region converged on the Cultural Center in Kumasi to elect nine executives to steer the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.
Twenty four contestants competed for the nine executive positions namely chairman, 1st and 2nd vice chairman, secretary, assistant secretary, organizer, youth organizer, women�s organizer and treasurer.
