MPs Are Lazy

The New Punch newspaper has gathered that out of the 230-member of the House, only 140 of them were punctual and regular at the daily sittings of the House in 2009. These MPs, according to the New Punch investigations belong to the ruling National Democratic congress (NDC) side of the House. The New Punch newspaper learnt that the attendance book for the year 2009 shows that the MPs in the House do not sign the book. The 230 member House who have been tasked with the responsibility of making laws and formulating policies that would seek the welfare of the citizens and also advocate developmental projects for their various constituencies, indicated that their punctuality throughout the three sections of the House in 2009 was very poor. At best, what they have been doing is to invite television stations to conduct interviews of documentary in order to use them as a bait to seek financial assistance from the international communities to enrich themselves. Further investigations reveal that they neglect their usual responsibility by making themselves international travelers. Instead of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Justice Joyce Bamford Addo and her colleagues dealing with the matter expeditiously with all the urgency needed to make sure punctuality is maintained, they rather look the other way. As a result of the actions of the MPs in the House, donor communities who have been sponsoring half of the day-to-day activities of the House have pulled out their sponsorship. In a related development, a source told the New Punch newspaper that one of the major culprits is Hon. Fritz Baffour, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South constituency in the Greater Accra Region. The source alleged that Hon. Fritz Baffour had not been regular at sittings of the House. Hon Baffour has since assuming office as MP of Ablekuma has travelled to South Africa 5 times without justifiable reasons, they alleged.
