An actionable offence which journalist Baby Ansaba was involved in prior to his latest confession of mudslinging against President Mills has been leaked to the media. The journalist who confessed putting out false stories in his newspaper, the New Punch, about then candidate Mills in the lead up to Election 2008 has made yet the biggest confession of knocking down and killing a pastor. The pastor headed the Weija (Jerusalem) branch of the Assemblies of God Church. Baby Ansaba is said to have been drunk driving when he knocked down the clergyman. Whilst Mr Sam says he is making the confessions to clear his conscience, sources close to him indicate he is being blackmailed. Sources say Vice President John Mahama reportedly gave out money to Mr. Sam to pay compensation to the bereaved family. This has not gone down well with some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who are now allegedly pushing Mr. Ansaba to go about making confessions to avoid prosecution. Mr Ansaba has however denied the allegations. �I don�t think that I�m being blackmailed. It�s a fact that my vehicle knocked down on the 6th of December, precisely about 7:30 in the evening and the person happens to be a pastor at the Jerusalem branch of the Assemblies of God Church in Weija. It�s a fact, the funeral has been held� It has ended but if somebody wants to resurrect it, no problem. �You know it�s only a man that swallows a bitter medicine. If that case goes to court, I�m not a judge, but I know that if the judge would do his or her job well the fact will [be] out." Mr Sam justified his confession, stressing other journalists have made more serious confessions and have gone away with it. Asked if it�s time he quit the profession, Mr Sam said it was a 'stupid question.' When contacted about the suggestion that the Vice President gave out money to be paid as compensation for the family of the deceased pastor, his spokesman declined comment and explained that the issue is a private one and cannot speak to it. But former Deputy Sports Minister Joe Aggrey, who is related to the deceased pastor, says Baby Ansaba has not paid any compensation to the family.
