The desire by President John Evans Atta Mills to embark on an aggressive agricultural modernization programme is on the verge of collapse, as a result of the whole sale of state farm lands and tractors at Kwamoso in the Akuapem North District in the Eastern Region by New Patriotic Party (NPP) members and the Nkosuohene of Kwamoso. The NPP Eastern Regional Organizer, Mr. Seth Otchere and Mr. E.Y Kissiedu, who are both former district NADMO coordinator and deputy coordinator respectively, are being cited to have done the deal by allocating and selling the state farm lands to farmers, using a taskforce they set up. The assembly�s tractors were also sold by Mr. Kissiedu, without consulting the assembly and the proceeds from the sale unaccounted for. The issues were made known to the paper at an emergency community forum, organized by the District chief executive, Mr. Opare Addo, to address land litigation issues which are creating insecurity in the district. At the forum were Mr. Kissiedu, the Nkosuohene and delegates from the Akuapem North District Assembly but Mr. Otchere was absent. After listening to the community residents, the DCE directed that the taskforce formed by Mr. Kissiedu and his boss, Mr. Otchere, be dissolved with immediate effect. In an interview with The Enquirer, the DCE said the illegal sale of the land is very serious indicating that the laws of the land will take its own course. He further directed that all farmers working on the Kwamoso state farms should register with the assembly, and warned that unauthorized structures on the state farms will be pulled down with orders from the court. Mr. Addo added that as the DCE for the area, he will ensure that the welfare of his people becomes paramount and he would not give any group of persons the chance to take advantage of the people. He said he would also adopt pragmatic financial measures to curb any diversion of the assembly�s revenue into the pockets of individuals at the detriment of the greater majority.
