NDC Are "Hypocrites"...They're Pure Enemies Of Progress! - Sammy Awuku

The National Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has  labeled the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)  as "hypocrites" over their stringent request for the findings by the Emile Short Commission to be included in the anti-vigilantism roadmap.

Sammy Awuku was utterly dismayed that the NDC who chose to boycott the Commission when it began investigations into the infamous Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence would make a U-turn to express interest in the Commission's findings.

He wondered why they would ask for the findings to be the main foundation of the anti-vigilantism roadmap.

Addressing the press after the fourth session of the dialogue series, General Secretary of the NDC, Asiedu Nketia, said excerpts of the roadmap vindicate the NDC’s position on the dialogue.

“This is a big problem which needs the engagement of all stakeholders who have a role to play in eliminating vigilantism. Two political parties alone cannot eliminate vigilantism. It needs everybody on board. So if we are able to determine if it is the work of the Police which hasn’t gone down well that is why the canker is not being addressed, then the Police leadership needs to commit to doing their work better. That is how you draw a roadmap for implementation. How can we be sitting down here and be drawing roadmaps for issues that we don’t have control over.”

But speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia morning programme, the NPP National Organizer was of a stong view that the NDC is skeptical over the success of the dialogue between the parties involved in the process to end political vigilantism in the country.

To him, the opposition party only desires to impede the work of the Committee working on the roadmap.

“The NDC did raise the matter but we find it very hypocritical. This was the same political party that openly and officially said they were boycotting the Emile Short Commission. They said they didn’t want to have anything to do with the Emile Short Commission. The subsequently issued a statement asking its members not to cooperate with the Emile Short Commission but today the NDC wants the same Commission that they boycotted to be the main foundation of the Anti-Vigilantism Road Map...am shocked,” he exclaimed.

“NDC is deliberately delaying the process for no reason…their postures portrayed that they are not ready in fighting against vigilantism and doing everything possible to allow the process sit on the table for a very long time without any solution”, he added.

Sammy Awuku's comments came on the heels of the postponement of the roadmap drawn by the Peace Council to end the vigilantism.
