Hawa Koomson’s Statement Borders On Her Ministry Alone, But . . . - Nhyiaeso MP

Member of Parliament [MP] for Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Kennedy Kwasi Kankam has descended on the Minister for Special Development Initiatives[MSDI ], Mavis Hawa Koomson about a comment she made about the 1Village,1Dam.

He said the comments by the Minister may have resulted due to frustrations she is facing from the project she is handling or a communication failure, since her issues addressed does not reflect what is actually on the ground regarding the 1Village, 1Dam initiative.

Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show, Kennedy Kankam noted that, “Hawa Koomson’s issues addressed regarding 1Village, 1Dam does not in actuality reflect what is on the ground due to governments expectations, because her outfit is not the only channel embarking on the said project.”

He further explained that, “her [Hawa Koomson] statements bothers on her ministry only and not the entire 1Village, 1Dam concept.”

The Minister for Special Development Initiatives in an interview categorically stated that the pond-like dams constructed by her outfit is exactly what the Akufo-Addo-led government promised Ghanaians during the 2016 electioneering period and not Akosombo-like dams in the northern part of the country.

“Look at the cost, GHc 250,000. If you are constructing a meaningful dam you don’t need anything less than 3 million dollars. So if I’m constructing a GHc 250,000 dam then what kind of dam are you expecting from me? That is the kind of dam we promised the people, we didn’t say we are constructing the $3 million or $6 million type of dam for them.”

“We said one village one dam, we didn’t say Bui dam or Akosombo dam for the village, and when we say one dam in the village, some of us know the type of dam we are talking about, it’s not the bigger type, it’s for the people to use during drought . . . so we needed some water close to the village,” she explained.
