AFCON 2019: We Spent $4.5m - Sports Minister

Sports Minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah has told Parliament that Ghana spent $4.5million on the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

This is the same amount paid as prize money to winners, Algeria.

Briefing Parliament on Wednesday, he said the country budgeted $6.3million for the whole tournament.

The Black Stars exited the tournament at the 1/16th stage in a match against Tunisia.

Ghana received $670.000 as prize money after exiting at that stage.

Briefing Parliament Wednesday, the Minister indicated the highest budget item was accomodation at $1,143,519million while visa fees at $8,541 was the lowest.

The Minister confirmed, government sent supporters to Egypt to cheer the Black Stars.

Ghana football is undergoing a difficult time since it was rocked by a bribery scandal in June 2018.

However, he said a detailed Tournament Report is to be provided by the Normalization Committee by 26th July, 2019 after which major recommendations and decisions with regard to the re-organization of football in Ghana will be taken.
