Shame Unto MinorityClergy And Opinion Leaders Should Call Them To Order- NDC

The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, has called on the clergy and traditional rulers to intervene in what he says is the shameful act being exhibited by the Minority in Parliament regarding its boycott of sittings. The Minority say their action is in solidarity with Nana Darkwa Baafi, the NPP activist, who was incarcerated for alleging that the Rawlingses deliberately set fire to their Ridge residence. According to him, the two bodies should impress on the Minority in Parliament and advise them to attend parliamentary proceedings so as to move the nation forward. Ever since the young NPP activist made that irresponsible statement, the minority has not publicly condemned it but has rather decided to boycott parliamentary proceedings in support of his commentsIf this is how we are training our youth, then Ghana is in trouble it is very shameful backing this irresponsible statement, he stated. Speaking in an interview on Citi FM's Breakfast Show, Mr. Boateng-Gyan said since the clergy and traditional rulers are also responsible for the upbringing of the youth, they should make it a point to intervene, he said. The NDC National Organizer also chastised the Police Service for the swift arrest and prosecution of the NPP activist, adding that they should have exercised a little bit of restraint. This is purely a political issue.the police should have seen it as a political issue, since the boy, Nana Darkwa, represented a political party during the panel discussion on Top Radio, he added. The Minority in Parliament boycotted parliamentary proceedings indefinitely until they say, the Attorney-General drops all charges against the 27-year old NPP sympathizer. Nana Darkwa was arrested on Thursday, 18th February and remanded into prison custody by the Cocoa Affairs Court in Accra for 2 weeks. He was however, released on Friday, 19th February, 2010, after spending less than 24hours in custody. He was granted bail in the sum of GH400.00 plus one surety.
