NDC officials Attend Workshop In Spain

A 14-member delegation of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has returned from Spain after attending a workshop at the invitation of the Socialist Party (SP) of Spain. The one-week intensive training sponsored by the SP was on the theme: "Local Governance System and Strengthening of the Public Service." Mr Anthony Gyampo, leader of the delegation, briefing the Ghana News Agency about the trip on Monday in Accra, said the workshop was aimed at exposing the delegates to political party organization and communication to help manage the operations of the NDC. He said the group received training on best practices and party organization, efficient and effective coordination between the party and government. "We were taken through both theoretical and practical lessons on how the various departments of the party work with government. "There was also a course on how the decentralization system in Spain operates and their functions. There was a trip to meet and share ideas with some of the heads of their local government departments." He said as part of the training, the group visited the party headquarters, the Spanish Women's Liberation Centre and the Spanish Press Centre among other places. Mr Gyampo said one notable phenomenon was the country's strict adherence to the nation's 40 per cent representation of women in all sectors. "If we practice that it will help the gender balance related issues in the country and help promote effective and healthy practice in democracy." He said the delegation was made up of five regional secretaries as well as members from various sectors of the party, including international relations, women and youth wings. Mr Gyampo expressed appreciation to the leaders of the Socialist Party of Spain for the co-operation.
