Inter President Moratti Shocked By Muntari Ban

Inter president Massimo Moratti has admitted he was shocked by the Lega Calcios decision to hand a two-match suspension to his Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari and other players of the team. Inter coach Jose Mourinho and midfielder Esteban Cambiasso were also handed bans in the fall-out of Saturdays night Serie A fixture with Sampdoria. Speaking at the entrance of his office, Moratti said, We did not expect a ruling of this kind. Inter have already announced they plan to appeal the decision and Moratti told journalists that the club would not be discussing the matter until a final decision had been made by the Lega Calcio. We have an important meeting. We are not trying to fuel the controversy by imposing a media blackout and I hope that this has been understood by the journalists. Inter are said to have closed the discussions until a decision has been made so the players can concentrate on this weeks Champions League clash with Chelsea. Muntari has been suspended for two games for hitting out at the referee during a Serie A game at the weekend, Italian media reported Monday. The Ghanaian midfielder is reported to have insulted referee Paolo Tagliavento, who sent off Inter players Walter Samuel and Ramiro Cordoba and Samdporia's Giampaolo Pazzini in a game the two sides drew 0-0 late Saturday. Muntari received the two-game ban for insulting the referee as he was being replaced by a teammate in the wake of the red cards shown to his team-mates.
