The bluff of the Minority NPP, that they would not return to Parliament until the case against Nana Darkwa is dropped, has been called. Several high ranking members of the NDC with whom the Ghanaian Lens interacted with over the weekend made it clear that the party would not countenance any attempt on the part of the Attorney General or any of her subordinates to kowtow to the whimsical demand of the NPP Parliamentarians. Reflecting to the mood of the party on this matter, Lawyer David Annan, a leading member of the NDC, made it clear on on Radio Gold last Saturday that �all hell will break loose� if the case is dropped. Last Friday, the NPP Parliamentarians staged a boycott of Parliament on the grounds that Nana Darkwa, an NPP activist who had been arrested, properly charged and arraigned before a law court and was remanded into custody by the court, should be released and his prosecution brought to an end. After an Accra High Court granted Nana Darkwa bail pending hearing of the substantive case, the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu made it clear that since dropping of the case against Nana Darkwa is one of the conditions set by the NPP Parliamentarians for their return to Parliament, the release of Nana Darkwa on bail does not suffice for them (NPP) parliamentarians) to return to the House of Parliament. Given the uncompromising mood in the NDC with regards to the option of the case against Nana Darkwa being dropped, it is safe to assume that the NPP Parliamentarians would stay out of Parliament for the rest of the term of the current Parliament. Unless they are prepared to eat humble pie and return to Parliament. Considering that the NPP MPs would loath to forego the ex-gratia that they are likely to lose out on if they stay out for the remainder of the term, it is more than likely that they would return to Parliament under some unprincipled guise in the next few days.
