New Majority Leader Advises Parliament

The new majority leader in parliament, Hon. Cletus Avoka has said even though caucuses of parliament have the right to resort to boycott of parliamentary proceedings to register their grievances over issues, such right must be exercised with circumspection and as a last resort. The new majority leader made this remark when the minority caucus returned to parliament today to take part in business of the House after it staged a walk-out last Friday 19th February 2010 in protest against the arrest and detention of Nana Darkwa Baafi who was reported to have made a derogatory remark about former President Rawlings on Top Radio, an Accra radio station. Hon. Avoka also commended the minority for ending their boycott of sittings of the House. The minority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu pledged the full cooperation of the minority to the new leadership of the majority caucus to help deepen parliamentary democracy in the country.
