STATEMENT: We Hold Raymond Archer In High Esteem Despite Court Ruling--NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has noted with great concern the decision of an Accra high Court that convicted ace investigative journalist and Editor of the Enquirer newspaper, Mr. Raymond Archer for contempt of court. It would be recalled that Mr. Archer in his zest to expose corruption, published a number of articles against the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, over the ex-ministers engagement in rice importation while he was a Minister of State. These are contained in a press statement issued by the NDC and signed by its National Propaganda Secretary, Mr. Richard Quashigah. The statement said as much as NDC respects the decision of the Court, especially as a Party that believes in the rule of law, we wish to state that Mr. Archer is one we hold in high esteem as one of the few committed to the broadening of the frontiers of democracy in Ghana." The statement said as an ardent fighter against corruption, he has in his work over the years exposed many corrupt personalities in our society whose actions if not for him could have further crippled the already wobbling Ghanas Economy during the periods 2001 -2009. The statement said unlike some Ghanaian journalists believed to have been bribed by the previous regime, according to the audit report, Raymond archer sincerely stood the test of time and fought against corruption. The statement said NDC is sure Mr. Archer will be vindicated.
