Do Periodic Cervical Cancer Check Ups - Non-virgin Women Advised

Chief Executive Officer of Endpoint Homeopathic Clinic, Dr. Adu Boateng has disclosed the need for every woman who is not a virgin to undergo cervical cancer checkups once every 3 years to ascertain the state of their cervixes.

According to him, once a woman has had sexual intercourse with a man, the tendency to develop cervical cancer is high as it is easy for such a woman to be infected with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) for the fact that she has slept with a man before.

Speaking to the issue of cervical cancer education on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Dr. Adu Boateng indicated that it will take only virgins to be free from cervical cancerous disease.

He reiterated that, “once you have slept with a man before, that virus [Human Papilloma Virus] can come without the woman knowing she has it; women can get infections without knowing they have infections and that virus can spread to their cervix and eventually become cervical cancer”.

He further indicated that women who are chain smokers are susceptible to cervical cancer; stressing that it is equally dangerous for those young girls who had sex earlier than their required matured age to engage in sexual intercourse.

“Every woman who had sex with a man before they grow in maturity, like at the age of 12, 14 and 15 years have a higher chance of getting cervical cancer. Again, any woman with multiple sexual partners has a higher chance of getting cervical cancer, and a woman whose partner is a smoker is likely to contract cervical cancer,” he disclosed.

He, however, alarmed that cervical cancer aside the breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women when it comes to cancer cases; emphasizing that cervical cancer kills women a lot, bemoaning the little education channeled to that area.

“It can kill and in fact, if you look at cancerous cases killing women in the world, apart from breast cancer the second cause of death among women is what I am talking about, cervical cancer. If you don’t see it on time and it gets to the final stage, it will kill you before you get to the office. Even if we see it on time but it has advanced, your womb can be removed to save your life,” he alerted.

Dr. Adu Boateng, therefore, assured that cervical cancer even though dangerous for women, is curable if the virus is detected on time.

“There are consequences after treating cervical cancer; in that, the woman’s life span can be cut short and again she may not have any feelings for her husband and not be able to give birth after her women have been removed due to cervical cancer. And so, prevention is always better than cure,” he cautioned.

He advised that, “as we are in a cancer month, apart from the breast cancer, the next screening every woman, if only you have slept with a man before, must do is the cervical cancer screening; at least, once in e every three years”.
