The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has indefinitely postponed its annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for October 30, 2019, due to an interlocutory injunction initiated by some disgruntled members of the society.
The members are Akosua Agyapong, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, K.K Kabobo, Daniel Adjei, George William Dickson, Ama Afriyie and John Mensah Sarppong.
The said injunction was issued by the High Court and dated October 24, 2019.
In view of this, GHAMRO said it had no choice but to cancel the planned AGM slated to take place at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
According to the leadership of GHAMRO, a new date, time and venue for holding the AGM will be notified later on, after the determination of the case.
But in a statement issued in Accra, GHAMRO said prior to this development, through the successful leadership of the Attorney General (A-G), an audit of the financial health of GHAMRO from 2012 to 2016 was completed by the Ghana Audit Service as well as the review of its constitution.
The statement said, during a follow up meeting held on July 22, this year, at the office of the A-G, three key decisions were arrived at, (a) To make the final draft of constitution available to the members in accordance to the law, (b) to sensitize and collate members response on provisions of the final draft constitution and (c) to conduct an annual general meeting on October 24, 2019, where the drafted constitution is expected to be adopted.
According to GHAMRO, The first two activities have been completed at regional meetings in nine regions, adding that the final outstanding activity, the annual general meeting, originally scheduled for October 24, 2019, was pushed to Wednesday October 30, for which the venue and other preparations have been completed.
“Against the above arrangement however, the society received a motion for an interlocutory injunction emanating from the High Court of Ghana, dated October 22 2019, requesting GHAMRO and its board to take notice that Akosua Agyapong, a member of GHAMRO, will move this honourable court, praying for an order of interlocutory injunction against the GAHMRO, restraining them from organizing an annual general meeting in Kumasi, on October 30, 2019, on the grounds set forth in the affidavit in support,” it said.
As a law abiding society, GHAMRO said since it had confidence in the judicial system of Ghana and respects the rule of law, it had referred the case to its solicitors for advice.
