NDC Youth Ransack DCEs House

Some youth of the ruling National Democratic (NDC) in the Berekum Congress in the Berekum Constituency last Friday turned their anger on their Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Lord Oppong , storming his official residence and looting almost everything in the house, including livestock and cooking utensils. The irate NDC youth, popularly known in the area as Nima Boys claimed the MCE has woefully failed the Berekum, people while accusing him of using government money to feed his family at the detriment of the ordinary person on the street. According to reports, at the time of incident, Mr. Oppong was not at home, else he would not have survived the rage of the youth of his Party. After missing the MCE at his residence, the youth threatened to storm the 53rd Independence Day anniversary parade at Berekum and disrupt the event, but they were restrained by the leadership of the party. The Nima Boys, mainly from the Zongo Community in the Berekum Municipality, also accused the MCE of bringing the disunity among the rank and file of the party in the constituency. They therefore called on the President to fire him before disaster befalls the NDC in the area which is a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic party (NPP). According to them, the welfare of NDC youth has been neglected by Mr. Lord Oppong, a situation which has made them more impoverished than before. Because of him (the MCE) a colleague of mine nearly lost his life during the heat of the last elections. He was stabbed and also sacked from Accra Polytechnic where he was schooling, just because he had campaigned for Lord Oppong in his parliamentary bid, one of the irate youth told Daily Guide. Following this development, the constituency party executives held a crunch meeting with the leadership of the Nima Boys and impressed upon them to cease fire. They also assured the youth of pushing their concerns through. Meanwhile, attempts to reach Mr. Lord Oppong to comment on the issue have proved futile as his mobile phones have been switched off.
