An aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Andy Owusu has stated that sitting Members of Parliament who helped President Akufo-Addo win power in 2016, would be protected to maintain their seat in 2020.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman has also stated that he will ensure all sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) who supported the vision of candidate Akufo-Addo in 2016 are protected.  

In an interview with Kwame Adinkra, Andy Owusu, denied rumors that the Ashanti regional executive committee of the party were scheming to allow thirty-five (35) out of the forty-seven (47) MPs from the Ashanti region to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries unopposed.

He explained that, the office of the Ashanti regional NPP Chairman will ensure that the Parliamentarians who helped Nana Addo to cling the 2016 presidential elections victory will be retained and protected from marring their reputation by unscrupulous persons.

“You know Chairman Wontumi is not a coward and is not afraid of making his intentions known. We protected polling station executives and constituency executives so why not the parliamentarians who helped us gained power and are making sure that quality laws are made for us?

Kwame, if you can’t protect your staff at Pure FM who have made your show number one in the region, do you think anyone will be willing to work with you? No. We don’t change a winning team.” Andy stated.

Asked on how the party is going to protect the Parliamentarians and ensure that they are retained, Wontumi’s spokesperson intimated that they as a party will not force any candidate down the throat of any constituency but will ensure that no one mars the ‘astute’ reputation of the MPs who worked hard for their electoral successes in 2016.
