307 Ambulances: Every Country Deserves A Thinking Gov’t – Gabby Otchere-Darko

Founder of Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has touted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as “thinking government” following its distribution of over 300 ambulances to all constituencies in the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 28th January, 2020, commissioned and presented three hundred and seven (307) state-of-the-art ambulances to the National Ambulance Service in fulfilment of his 2016 campaign pledge.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the ambulances are “fitted with advanced life support equipment and tracking devices, to be distributed to 275 constituencies, i.e. 1-Constituency-1-Ambulance, to be managed by the National Ambulance Service, and the remainder of thirty-two (32) ambulances to the headquarters of the Service”.

Presenting the ambulances at a ceremony held at the Independence Square in Accra, the President said upon the inception of his government in January 2017, the National Ambulance Service had 130 stations, 10 regional control rooms and only 55 ‘semi-functioning’ ambulances across the country but “this was completely unacceptable, and my government was determined to rectify this unhappy state of affairs”.

“ In December 2015, two hundred (200) ambulances were supposedly purchased by the Mahama government, out of which only thirty (30) arrived in the country. As though this was not enough, the thirty (30) were declared “not fit for purpose because they had cardinal defects and did not come with any medical equipment”, he disclosed.

The Danquah Institute Founder believes Ghanaians have been blessed with the right government saying “every country deserves a thinking Government. Ghana has one and deserves no less”.

Mr. Otchere-Darko further revealed that the “Akufo-Addo-led govt is building an entirely modern and efficient (digitised) management system for the National Ambulance Service, integrated with the national digital address system, using the new and single emergency number for all services, 112, to save and protect lives.

“This thinking government is also providing 145 additional ambulance stations (one for every constituency), recruiting 1,477 more ambulance staff, equipping the Paramedic and Emergency Care Training School; all this is to ensure that this project of improving emergency health service is truly sustained to save lives beyond procurement and election cycle incentives. This is on top of efforts to rescue the NHIS and introducing drones for emergency medical supplies.”
