A former deputy Attorney-General in the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) who later became Aviation Minister, Madam Gloria Akufo, has rubbished claims made by the Attorney-General, Betty Mould Iddrisu, that former NPP presidential candidate, and one time Attorney-General, Nana Akufo Addo, hounded her out of office. According to her, during her position as a Deputy for that sector, there was no occasion when she heard anything of this nature from Betty Mould Iddrisu who then worked under Nana Akufo-Addo at the Ministry of Justice. "Though she said she had worked closely with Nana Addo, and might not have been around him all the time, she never felt or knew Betty Mould was being hounded by her former boss...She was a bubbly person,� Madam Gloria Akufo stated. Speaking to Kwami Sefa-Kayi, host of Peace FM�s �Kokrokoo� programme, the former Aviation Minister disclosed that Nana Addo then Attorney-General fully recognised Betty�s work and wrote an excellent reference letter for her to secure an international job in London. �That man (Akufo Addo) she is referring to, helped her to secure a job abroad,� she told Peace FM. She said Nana Addo worked with Betty till March 2003, when he was re-shuffled, adding that after Nana Addo�s personal lobbying and help, the then head of International Law Division at the Ministry, secured a job at the Legal and Constitutional Affairs of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, in November 2003. Madam Akufo opined that it was perhaps the incessant pressure that has gingered the Attorney-General to make such a statement about Nana Akufo Addo. �I believe it is due to pressure,� she said. Madam Gloria Akufo referred to the instance where there was so much pressure from the government even during the NPP�s regime, to prosecute alleged past corrupt state officials. �You don�t have to go the court if there is no evidence...i recall that at a point in time, i even told ex-President Kufuor that we could not proceed to the court, simply because there was no evidence," she stated. She added that it was normal to receive persistent pressures from government, as they seek to fulfill their campaign promises. "...working in a ministerial position is a sacrificial job... Therefore the necessary procedures and requirements needs to be followed to ensure success," she said. It will be recalled that the Attorney-General, Betty Mould Iddrisu on Tuesday made a statement on Radio Gold�s �60 Minutes� programme that Nana Akufo Addo hounded her out of office.
