Dr John Tampouri, Chief Executive of the Ho Teaching Hospital has touted the preparedness of the Region in meeting any outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
He said the Region had responded promptly to the coronavirus threat, with an effective vigilance system, and was undertaking a rigorous testing strategy not to miss any case.
Dr Tampori said this when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Covic-19 Technical Team presented personal protection equipment to the Hospital.
“We are ready. We started early enough and I believe we are doing what is right. We have a vigilance system in place in collaboration with the security agencies, and we are testing enough so as not to miss any case,” he said.
The Chief Executive said the Region was “over testing”, and that although it caused a strain on resources, it could not be more expensive than human life.
Dr Tampouri asked the public not to entertain fear and panic, adding that measures were in place, and called for support for frontline medics.
“All we need is support. Negative criticism won’t help,” he said, adding that “a single case would test the Region’s readiness,” for the outbreak.
Dr. Tsmpouri commended some institutions including banks for taking steps to prevent community spreading of the virus, but described the market as a challenge.
“Our biggest problem now is the market centres,” he lamented.
Dr Tampouri said the Hospital would maintain its guard, with multiple sorting to ensure no one escaped the net.
He noted the pressure on PPEs at health facilities, saying stocks expected to last for months now got used up within weeks, and commended the support of the NDC, whiles calling on more organisations to support the Health Service.
Dr Tampouri further appealed to the public to follow instructions, and also report suspected carriers of the virus for prompt action.
