Covid-19: Comms. Minister shuts down MTN office over social distancing breach

The Minister for Communications who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency has shut down a Mobile telecommunications giant – MTN branch in Dansoman Zodiac over violation of the social distancing protocol.

According to the Minister, MTN is a reputable corporate organization that should at least know better as to how to conduct its operations during this pandemic.

This ensued when the lawmaker visited her constituency to see how people are observing the safety protocols in combating the spread of the COVID-19 in the area.

She observed that the MTN branch in Dansoman Zodiac in the Greater Accra region has more than the number required to gather at a particular time and also there was no social distancing protocol being observed among customers

In an interview with Kasapa FM’s Akokoraba, the lawmaker fumed over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases recorded so far in the constituency within three weeks.

“If any company would do that, certainly not MTN. I’m very disappointed in you for breaching the health protocols”, she lamented.

She announced that the MTN branch has been shut down and will not be allowed to operate until they have put better arrangements in place.

Meanwhile, the staff of the company branch blamed the customers for not observing the social distancing protocols since they are fully aware of its consequences.
