Atta Mills Leads COVID-19 Education In KEEA Over Social Distancing Challenges

Mr Samuel Atta-Mills, Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) constituency is embarking on a sensitisation exercise to educate constituents on the COVID-19 pandemic to help stop its spread.

The move, he said had become necessary to disabuse the misconceptions about the COVID-19 by some members of his constituency.

Many fisher-folks believe that swimming in the sea could kill the virus while others feel it does not exist.

Mr Atta-Mills told the GNA that he was disturbed by the number of COVID-19 cases being recorded in the constituency, hence, his decision to provide protective items and help in educating the people.

The KEEA constituency has more than 50 out of the 192 confirmed cases recorded in the Central Region, making it one of the hot spots in the region.

The MP had presented about 2,000 veronica buckets, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, liquid soaps nose masks and other protective items to stem the spread of COVID-19 within communities in the constituency.

In all, over 40 communities are expected to benefit from the MP’s COVID-19 sensitisation and support.

He underscored the importance of handwashing with soap under running water, the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers among other protocols, and encouraged the people to make them part of their social lives.

“Now we know that KEEA is a hot spot so you will never know who has the disease. Wear your face masks when you go out, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and wash your hands regularly”, he advised.

Mr Atta-Mills further advised against stigmatizing people who have the virus because everybody was prone to it.
