Managing Director of State Housing Company, Kwabena Ampofo Appiah says the company has not abadoned any housing projects started by previous administrations.

He disclosed that, since assuming office, he has been on a mission to complete all the projects from the era of the erstwhile Kufour regime till date.

For years, there's been a trend where successive governments begin housing projects for Ghanaians but abandon them along the way, especially when the government is ousted from power to usher in a new regime.

Usually, the new regime begins its own housing project and neglects the existing ones.

Former President John Dramani Mahama who succeeded the late Professor Evans Atta Mills is said to have abandoned the houses by his predeccessor but went ahead to build new ones.

Ex-Presidents John Agyekum Kufour, late Atta Mills and John Mahama have all commenced some housing projects but their administrations didn't live to complete them.

But, according to Mr. Ampofo Appiah, the culture of neglecting housing projects is over as his outfit is working on all the houses to bridge the housing deficit in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', he noted that although the current administration is building new houses as well to shelter the lot of Ghanaians, the projects from the Kufour regime to the Mahama regime are all being done with some already completed.

He revealed that the Asokore Mampong housing project has been completed and named after Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He announced the completion date and plans for the projects not yet completed saying "We're targeting that by middle of next year, we would have completed all the projects that were started by His Excellency J.A Kufour. The ones that were started by Atta Mills, we're targeting that by the end of this year, we would have completed them. The few ones that were started by John Mahama, by the end of this month, we would have finished it. So, it should tell you something that the longer the project is abandoned, the longer it takes to fix it. With John Mahama's project, when we came, we didn't drop the ball even one day but continued it. The Atta Mills' projects that were abandoned under John Mahama, we had to go back and do a lot of work to be able to restart it. The same way that we had to go back and do even more work with the ones that were started by His Excellency J.A Kufour. We're hoping that by middle of next year, the backlog of abandoned projects, we would have completed all of them".
