CPP Needs Unity For 2012

THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has stated emphatically that the party will win the 2012 general elections if its executives and members are disciplined, united and work as a team. According to him, the disunity, backsliding and lack of teamwork within the party would destroy the CPP if not carefully checked. He added that the CPP lost the 2008 elections because discipline was low in the party. Dr. Nduom made this known on Friday at a press conference, after he hosted regional executives of the party from the Western and Central regions at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort at Elmina in the Central region. The meeting was however held behind closed doors, where he gave them the message he wants them to spread for the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. Dr. Nduom is on a tour to all the 10 regions of Ghana to meet regional and constituency executives of the party. Addressing the press, Dr. Nduom hinted that the 2012 elections was very crucial as various political parties would send their messages across to seek votes, hence there was the need for the CPP to also embark on an early campaign. In view of this, Dr. Nduom added that the party was preparing to start a youth campaign that would include youth who have dedicated their time and energy to support the party, to embark on its electioneering campaign. According to him, the party was ready to equip these youth to move throughout the country and propagate the works and policies of the CPP. Answering questions from the media as to whether the fragmented Nkrumahist parties could merge, Dr. Nduom described the situation as very disturbing and disgraceful to Ghanas First President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumahs vision. The 2012 presidential hopeful therefore hoped that the various Nkrumahist parties would unite to champion the dreams and aspirations of Dr. Nkrumah, adding that the party was still in talks with the Nkrumahist parties to come together. I wish the entire Nkrumahist come together so that we can work together and win elections as Dr. Nkrumah had wished, but now see us, we are divided, he added. Dr. Nduom charged the executives to remain calm and wait until nominations were finally opened to all. He advised them to embark on clean campaigns devoid of insults and castigations. Dr. Nduom therefore appealed to the executives to be careful in the selection of national executives for the party, adding that delegates should elect one who is loyal, trustworthy and ready to serve the party at all times. He however urged delegates to rally behind whoever would be elected for a national position since he would support all elected candidates so that CPP could win the 2012 elections. Dr. Nduom added that he would work with 50 Members of Parliament (MPs) for a start, who will be given the needed support to strengthen the various constituencies they operate in to enable the party to build upon its chances to increase its number of MPs in Parliament.
