Just Go & Register Your Name And You're Killing Yourselves; Needless Murder! - Atik Mohammed

PNC Stalwart, Atik Mohammed, has expressed resentments over the violent acts that have characterized the ongoing voter registration exercise.

One person was reportedly killed in Banda in the Bono Region over confrontations at a registration center days ago.

The deceased is said to be a teacher training graduate who was returning to the area to inform his parent of his completion of studies.

He was innocently caught up in the brawl after some persons associated with the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the constituency, according to sources, had a physcal confrontation with a brother of the Member of Parliament for the area named Ahmed Ibrahim.

The Police personnel at the registration center also reportedly sustained injuries from the clashes.

Touching on the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo'', Atik Mohammed slammed the parties involved in the clashes, wondering why simply registering your name should turn violent.

''Go and register your name for me to register my name too, how can that result in fighting? Needless murder! All these things tend to defy the success of this process'', he lamented.

He admonished the participants not to turn the registration exercise into a political competition and further asked them to desist from using violence to address their concerns.

''Now it has become a competition of daring. If you do this, we will also do that. What at all are we looking for? Politics is about freedom of speech. We disagree to agree or we agree to disagree. It's not about which entity is more violent than the other. That's not what democracy is about. That's not what politics itself is about.''
