Some Slay Queens Are 'Prostitutes' - Kwasi Ernest

Chief Executive of Media Excel Productions, Kwasi Ernest has branded slay queens in Ghana as ''prostitutes''.

According to him, the slay queens mostly use their social media handles to entice men for sex and other material things.

He was commenting on a statement by veteran Ghanaian actress, Grace Omaboe a.k.a Maame Dokono that she would have been much richer if she were a slay queen.

Maame Dokono explained, during her heydays as TV goddess, she had lots of men coming her way and if she had utilized her opportunities well, she would have today been one of the richest women in Ghana.

She has however come under a barrage of criticisms for reducing slay queens to women who enrich themselves by selling their bodies to them.

The term ''slay queen'' in African parlance has been associated with women who like to show off their luxurious lifestyle even when their living conditions are poor. Nonetheless, the word ''slay'' has become a jargon for impressing someone or to look attractive.

There is a school of thought that suggests being a slay queen is nothing bad and doesn't mean to indulge in indiscriminate sexual relations.

But to Kwasi Ernest, the country's slay queens  come under the category of prostitution and without pointing fingers at specific names, advised them to wise up and make investments, not just sell their bodies for money and other benefits.

He however commended some of them who have been able to utilize the slay queen business to build a solid career for themselves.

Some “slay queens have lots of properties. But I see, with some of them, they could have achieved more than what they even have if they could manage their finances effectively. I know a young lady who a man would buy ticket worth about 4,000 dollars for her to be in business class flight, go to stay in Dubai and sleep in most expensive hotel. Then she'll go and spend another 4,000-3,000 dollars and when she is done and returning, she would go for shopping and buy items to a sum of 4,000 dollars...When you check all these expenses, even if you got a rich man or Alhaji to sponsor you in that manner, I believe there could have still been a better way of using that money for your benefit,” he stated on ''Entertainment Review'' on Peace FM.
