The second phase of the National disinfection of public places in the Upper East Region has ended at Wiaga in the Builsa North District.

The spraying exercise took place at Wiaga in the early hours of the day and was followed by a clean-up exercise to rid the area of filth, rodents and cockroaches.

As part of the programme, all markets, shops, public toilets, lorry stations and areas of socialization in the region were fumigated.

The second phase of the National disinfection and clean-up exercise lasted for four days and was in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Zoomlion Ghana.

Mr Joseph Amiyuure, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive who spoke to the media in an interview on the exercise, reiterated government’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country, hence the second spraying exercise to protect the citizenry.

Though the exercise interrupted some market days in some districts, he indicated that earlier consultations with leaders of the markets contributed to the success of the exercise.

He was grateful for the cooperation of the market women and the patronage by partners such as the security services for the support and turnout to ensure a smooth programme and noted that the spraying served a dual purpose, “it will not only curb the Coronavirus, but other disease causing organisms will be eliminated, especially mosquitoes”.

Mr John Sackey, the Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana, said other public places, where there was the likelihood of virus infection were sprayed to ensure vector control and get rid of rodents, insects and any disease causing organisms in such places.

Some of the equipment used in the exercise included; the Atomizer, the fog machine, mix blower and drones.
