MMDCEs Don't Fix Street Lights - Ga West MCE Clement Wilkinson

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) are very important officials in Ghana’s governance system regarding decentralization and local governance establishment.

The role and functions of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies are established in Chapter twenty of the 1992 Constitution.

Speaking on UTV late News, Clement Nii Lamptey Wilkinson, MCE for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, has explained the duty of MMDCEs to be providing political and administrative leadership.

According to him, all MMDCEs work within a budget under the Internal Generated Fund (IGF) and Common Fund.

“Every money from the government must be accounted for, therefore you cannot go and account for fixing traffic light whiles you know that is not part of your responsibility as an MMDCE.

“Fixing and repairing of the traffic light is not the duty of a Municipal Assembly but we do follow-ups on hospital minor problems and fixing of streetlights. We steer the affairs of everything that concerns government but when it comes to the traffic light, it’s the duty of Urban Roads,” he said.

He also charged the citizens to use appropriate channels to resolve their grievances and not resort to violence.
