A clandestine attempt by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to lure a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to her side has hit a snag. Intelligence sources have hinted The Enquirer newspaper that a team of Konadu emissaries dispatched to meet Alhaji Mohammed Sani, former First Vice Chairman of Ashanti NDC, to convince him to lead Nana Konadu�s campaign in the Ashanti Region were hit with a big �NO� and given a rude sack. The modus operandi of the emissaries were a direct attempt to sow discord between President J.E.A. Mills and Alhaji Sani, the man who took full steps to reorganize the NDC in the Ashanti Region when it lost power in 2000. Alhaji Sani, who told The Enquirer from Kumasi via phone yesterday, that the emissaries, who were led by a respected �big man� whom he does not want to name, told him that President Mills had not been fair to him by not offering him any appointment and must therefore ditch him. �I immediately told them to leave the meeting place quickly because I was angry to the extent that I could have done anything at that moment,� he said. Alhaji Sani, who is widely noted for his frankness, told The Enquirer that the emissaries then started making offers to him to lead the Nana Konadu campaign in the Ashanti Region, but he told them he was not interested at all. �Chief, you know how I do my things, but to tell you the truth, what Rawlings is doing today is an indirect coup,� he said. He added, �Me, I told the people straight in the face that I am not interested in following Nana Konadu in anyway.� Alhaji Sani told The Enquirer that vouching for Nana Konadu is just like being an opposition member of the very party which is in power and I am ready to be an opposition member within it,� he said. He told The Enquirer that the scathing attacks launched on President Mills by the Rawlingses were just a decoy to run him down. �I want to sound this caution that nobody from Konadu should get closer to me because I am for Prof. Mills and the Better Ghana Agenda,� he said. He told The Enquirer Prof. Mills is working hard to make things better for Ghanaians but the Rawlingses are trying to derail that. �Former President J.A. Kufuor, in his own wisdom, when asked to assess the Mills administration, said it was too early for him to do that,� he contended. �That makes Rawlings� claim that the NDC lost the 2012 the first week Prof. Mills took office very unfortunate,� he added. Alhaji Sani told The Enquirer that Rawlings, with his assessment, wants every soul to believe that he is God but that can never be. �During his nineteen years as Head of State, he was assisted by many people, including me, so why is he not supporting Prof. Mills?� He asked.
