“Akyem Sakawa Boys” Nickname Has Come To Stay - Asiedu Nketia Mocks Akufo-Addo

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the impatience of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to complain to the Catholic Bishops' with the help of those who went out to demonstrate over the “Akyem Sakawa Boys” comment have made it a household name henceforth.

According to him, the President’s complaint to the Catholic Bishops', expressing his dislike of the name tag also gave more flesh and drew the attention of the country to the "Akyem Sakawa Boys" comment which was reposted by former President John Dramani Mahama.

“I think that the impatience of the President to complain about it has rather escalated or re-echoed the 'Akyem Sakawa Boys' comment; he has rather spread and drew attention to the 'Akyem Sakawa Boys' comment where everyone is now talking about it”.

“If you are a teacher and your students give you a nickname and you beat them then you have established or confirmed the nickname to stay forever. So, the way the President discussed the issue with the Catholic Bishops' and followed by demonstration have established or have made the 'Akyem Sakawa Boys' comment become a permanent name or a nickname,” he asserted.

He insisted that nothing can be done to avert the “Akyem Sakawa Boys” nickname as those who are demonstrating and explaining the comment are making people understand that there are "Akyem Sakawa Boys" in the country.

He was of the view that the issue would have died naturally if the President had not complained his frustration about the name given to those Akyem people who are involved in the Agyapa Royalty deal, toppled with a demonstration.

He spoke in an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese in the studios of Okay FM.
