Mrs Cynthia Morrison, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has cut the sod for works to commence on two separate projects at Agona Otabilkrom and Agona Nyakrom to promote sporting activities in Agona West.
The Astro turfs projects, which are expected to be completed within three months, are being financed by the Coastal Development Authority(CODA).
Addressing separate gatherings of the Chiefs and people of Agona Otabilkrom and Agona Nyakrom, the Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Agona West, said the Astro turfs would help improve sporting activities, especially football that is a very lucrative business.
She said this would help the many youths in the constituency to harness their God-given talents in sports, develop the playing of football and other sporting activities as careers.
The Minister was accompanied by Mr Jerry Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Coastal Development Authority(CODA) and other Government Officials.
Mrs Morrison paid a courtesy call on Ogidigram Odiowusiw okobioko Kobena Aseidu Botwe II, Swedruhene and Adontenhen of Nyakrom Traditional Area to inform him and his elders about the project.
The Minister assured the Swedruhene and Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, that the contractors were instructed to recruit artisans from the communities to serve as employment for the youth.
The MP said the projects would bring unity of purpose to ensure economic and human development, adding that the government would continue to enhance the living standards of the people.
The Swedruhene expressed appreciation to the government for realizing the need to construct the two new Astro turfs in Agona West to support the youth to unearth their talents.
He cautioned the followers of the MP to eschew negative behaviour which could create problems for the MP and President Akufo-Addo in their quest to win the December polls to continue the good works.
Mr Ahmed assured Swedruhene and Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku that the contractors were instructed to employ people from the area and to complete the project on schedule.
He said the Gender Minister’s hard work, dedication, inspiration and selflessness had pushed the CODA to fast track procurement processes to begin the construction of the Parks on time.
The CEO said the Astro turfs would, among others, have floor lights, stands and changing rooms.
At Swedru, Mrs Morrison, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, District Chief Executive for Agona West and Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, MrRobert Ahomka Lindsay jointly commissioned a newly constructed Swedru taxi-rank with blocked pavement and financed by the Secondary Cities, a US-based organization.
The three officials also presented 10 mobility carts to 10 people with disability in the Agona West as part of efforts to support them to reduce the burden on their parents.
Mr Lindsay promised to bring an additional 10 carts and urged the people to rally behind the government to enable it to retain power in the December 7 polls.
Mr Ahomka Lindsay called on the supporters of the New Patriotic Party in Agona West to bury their political differences and unite to secure a resounding victory for the Party to undertake more projects for the area.
