General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the only stumbling block to the victory of former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the December 7 polls is the fairness of the Electoral Commission and election security provided by the NPP government.

To him, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) knows that the willingness of Ghanaians to vote back former President John Dramani Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) into power is in no doubt.

The NDC Chief Scribe, however, lamented on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show that the chances of the NDC to win the 2020 general election is challenged by the activities of the Electoral Commission which go against the free, fair and transparent election.

He complained that the Electoral Commission is doing everything possible to destroy the reputation of the country and kill the confidence of Ghanaians in the electoral process by putting skew measures in place to favour the ruling NPP government.

He stressed that every step of the way of the Electoral Commission (EC) towards the 2020 general election is problematic as the more the opposition complain, the more the Commission continues to do the wrong things.  

“I have said it severally that in this year’s election, there are two problems confronting us. The willingness of Ghanaians to vote back former President John Dramani Mahama into power is in no doubt and the ruling NPP knows this, but the problem is to have a free, fair and transparent election,” he claimed.

“If you look at the activities of the Electoral Commission, every step of the way is problematic and the more we complain, the more the EC continues to do it; the Commission is adamant and doing everything that it can to destroy the name of the country and they don’t care about the fact that they are killing the confidence Ghanaians have in the electoral process. All they care about is that Akufo-Addo must retain power at all cost and so that is one of the problems we have in this year’s election,” he lamented.

General Mosquito as affectionately called maintained that the ruling NPP government itself has the understanding that they cannot win the 2020 general election and hence has resorted to violence, and any other means to win the election.

“Apart from these two stumbling blocks; the election security and the fairness of the Electoral Commission (EC), there is no doubt that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC will win this year’s election . . . apart from these, our chance of winning the election is very clear,” he insisted.
