Robbers Raid AshGold Stadium In Obuasi, Electrical Cables Stolen

Ghanaian top-flight side AshGold suffered a massive setback on Thursday when armed robbers raided their Len Clay stadium in Obuasi and made away with lighting equipment worth around $172,000.

The robbery comes just two weeks before the country's top-flight commences and also months before the club play in CAF Confederation Cup.

The Police in Obuasi have commenced investigations into a case of cable theft which has been reported to them by AshantiGold SC.

AngloGold Ashanti Company Limited, the mining company that owns the community club, have been called in to assess the damage caused by the robbery.

No arrests have been made at the moment as the search for the thieves continues.

The thieves cut the cables meant to be used for electrical works on the flood light and other essential cables at the Len Clay stadium.

AshantiGold SC will host Karela United FC at the same venue in the opening day of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League on 15 November 2020.
