Let's Correct Challenges In Revolutionary Agyapa Deal – John Boadu Urges

General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, John Baodu has asked that challenges with the Agyapa deal be corrected and reassessed.

He says the deal is a revolutionary one that will help cash in more revenue for the country for the benefit of the country’s natural resources.

Speaking on the Agyapa deal on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that the deal was one that is going to help harness the country’s natural resources.

According to him one of the main reasons why African countries continue to be poor is that they are not making good use of their natural resources.

"Instead of putting it up on the stock market to attract proper investors, they exchange it for loans with huge interest and if they are unable to pay it is taken away from them. So if Ghana is learning from other countries who have revolutionized their natural resources, let’s all help to promote it for the natural benefit et all," he added.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has completed the corruption risk assessment on the Agyapa Royalties deal and forwarded its recommendations to the Office of the President.

This was made known in a press statement dated November 2, 2020, signed and issued by the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu.

Mr. Amidu explained in the press statement that the report was completed on October 15, 2020 and it was forwarded to the Office of the President on October 16, 2020 as well as the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta.

On August 14, 2020, Parliament approved the Agyapa Minerals Royalties Investment Agreement and four related documents to allow for the monetization of Ghana’s future gold royalties.
