Sycophants! You Insult Rawlings But Today Behave Like You Loved Him - Dr. Asah Asante

Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante has slammed Ghanaians who used to verbally assault the country's former President, Jerry John Rawlings, but are eulogizing him after the latter's demise.

Commenting on the death of Mr. Rawlings, Dr. Asah Asante was alarmed that the people who insulted the late Statesman while he was alive have today turned around to shower praises on him.

It could be recalled that some members of both the ruling New Patriotic Party and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) including a section of the general public slighted Mr. Rawlings over his personality and statements he made in his capacity as Ghana's former President and also founder of the NDC.

Mr. Rawlings was angered by the character of those members.

One notable incident is when Mr. Rawlings called some members of his party as ''babies with sharp teeth'' for denigrating him and also took a swipe at the party's leadership for looking aloof.

He also clashed on several occasions with the NPP when he accused the then John Agyekum Kuffuor administration of being corrupt.

Former President Jerry Rawlings died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday, November 12, 2020.

He passed away at the age of 73 after a short illness.

Making his submissions on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Dr. Asah Asante gave a new word to describe the people behaving now as if they cherished Mr. Rawlings, meanwhile their character says otherwise.

"It's sycophancy. It's hypocrisy," he blasted them.
