Election 2020: National Security Operatives Have No Right To Be At Polling Stations - IGP

The Inpector General of Police and Chairman of the National Election Security Taskforce, James Oppong-Boanuh esq. says no National Security operative is permitted at the various polling stations on Monday, December 7.

He charged the Ghanaian electorates to report any person who comes to the polling station introducing himself or herself as a National Security officer to the Police personnel deployed to the particular polling station.

According to him, the National Security are tasked to clamp down on persons who may resort to terrorism or commit serious crimes on the day of the election but not allowed to come to the polling stations except they are there to vote and go back to their stations.

"Security at the polling stations is not the responsibility of the National Security. It is the duty of the Police and the other uniformed security agencies. The National Intelligence Bureau, formerly called BNI, will be in the background to check terrorism and other serious crimes. They will not be directly involved in the elections. So, should someone come to the polling station and claims to be a National Security officer, ask what's his or her mission there? If the person doesn't vote at the polling station, he has no right to be there," he told Kwami Sefa Kayi during an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme.
