Jean Mensa Can’t Run Away From Cross-examination - Baba Jamal

Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal has indicated that cross-examining the Chairperson for the 1st Respondent, Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa in the ongoing 2020 election petition will be crucial for the petitioner, John Mahama and Ghanaians as a whole.

According to the former Member of Parliament for Akwatia Constituency, the petitioner needs some answers and documents from the 1st Respondent to help shape the petition before the Supreme Court.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Baba Jamal said that the intention of the petitioner from the beginning to inspect some documents of the 1st Respondent and also interrogate the Chairperson of the 1st Respondent was to help the petitioner authenticate his case.

He, however, said he cannot fathom the argument of the 1st Respondent not to mount the witness box after swearing-in affidavits in the Court to make herself available to provide answers to some earlier demands of the petitioner in a cross-examination.

“We are not even talking about the witness statement; we are talking about evidence which is already before the Supreme Court. We are talking about her affidavit before the Supreme Court to allow herself for cross-examination when the need arises,” he argued.

“Do you think it is proper for someone who has sworn affidavit before the Supreme Court to allow herself to be cross-examined is now saying she will not mount the witness box? The law is that once you have adduced evidence before the court, you cannot run away from your own evidence,” he opined.
