Election Petition: Mahama Deceived His Party Followers For His 2024 Agenda - Gary Nimako

Private Legal Practitioner, Gary Nimako Marfo has said that former President John Dramani Mahama has a hidden agenda to contest for President again in 2024.

An agenda that has led him to deceive his supporters by going to court knowing very well that he has lost the 2020 general election.

Mr. John Mahama has petitioned the Apex Court of the land to grant his request for a second election because he believes that, neither President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nor he attained the required numbers in the 2020 elections to be elected President of Ghana.

He has dragged the Electoral Commission and the President to the Supreme court.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that Mr. Mahama has no case but was rather seeking sympathy from his party supporters to enable him lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and contest again in the 2024 general elections.

"Mr. Mahama went to court, paraded himself as the President-elect, and even made statements to the effect that the election verdict was a subversion of the will of Ghanaians," he said.

"I was very surprised Mr Mahama went to court and changed his case saying that he didn't win the elections and doesn't believe President Nana Akufo-Addo won either, hence seeking a run-off," he added.

He emphasized that John Dramani Mahama has deceived Ghanaians and all NDC faithful because what he said publicly is different from the things he's saying in court.

"This is a preparatory ground for former President Mahama for 2024," he told Kwame Nkrumah.

Election Petition

The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision upheld the application by the 1st and 2nd Respondents not to call any witnesses in the ongoing election petition hearing.

The decision by the Apex Court follows oral arguments made by the lawyers for the Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo that their clients cannot be compelled to testify.

Citing Order 38, rule 3 (e) sub-rule 1 and 5 of CI 47 as amended by CI 87, the two counsels had argued that the burden of proof in the petition hearing lies on the petitioner and therefore it will be wrong for the lead counsel for Mr. John Mahama to induce evidence from the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa.
