E.T. Mensah On Why He Contested Council of State Election

E.T. Mensah, former National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ningo-Prampram, has stated he did not betray his opposition party by running for a Council of State membership spot.

Speaking in an interview with Asaase Radio on Monday (15 February), the veteran politician said his decision to contest the election was to give back to society.

“My motivation to go to the Council of State was to give back to the people of this country what they have invested in me. You will see the number of conferences and study tours I have attended to learn,” he said.

He added: “And so when somebody invests in you, the person expects something back… I must also mount the platform to make sure that I support that idea of the president.”

The former sports minister was elected to represent Greater Accra Region on the Council of State after obtaining 100% votes last Friday.

He obtained all the 58 votes to win the slot, defeating his predecessor Nii Kotei Dzani.

He was declared winner by the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Kwame Amoah.
