GHc 125m Green Ghana Project: Realizing Just Ghc 1Million 'A Vote of No Confidence' In Gov't - Baba Jamal

Former Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal, says the Akufo-Addo government’s failure to raise Ghc125 million for the Green Ghana Project is a sign of a vote of no confidence in the administration.

According to him, Ghanaians have lost trust in the Akufo-Addo government hence their unwillingness to entrust Ghc125 million in their care for the planting of 5 million trees across the country.

If a Ministry like Lands and Natural Resources has set up a committee to raise fund to support such a national project initiated by the President and you were supposed to project 125 million Cedis and you raise less than 2 million Cedis, it means a vote of no confidence in the Akufo-Addo government. It is less than 1 per cent confidence in the government,” he asserted.

Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Baba Jamal believed Ghanaians consider the current administration as a bunch of thieves, thus the meagre financial contribution towards the project, and cited the recent missing excavators saga to buttress his point.

They know that if they give the money to this government, the money will be misused because if excavators can fly under this government without tracing them, money is nothing in their hands”.

“So, clearly, it is a vote of no confidence in this government. Ghanaians simply do not have faith in this government because we have a lot of corporate bodies and other institutions that could have supported this initiative . . .

“ . . if you give this government money, they will squander it and if you give excavators to this government, they will fly away and they cannot manage the fight against Galamsey. This government does not have the confidence of the public," he reiterated.
