Liverpool Begin Talks To Award Mohamed Salah With New Two-year Extension To Make Him The Highest-paid Player At Club

Liverpool have begun negotiations to make Mohamed Salah the highest-paid player in the club's history with a new four-year deal, according to reports.

The Egyptian winger - widely regarded as one of the most important players in Jurgen Klopp's squad - is currently on a £200,000-a-week contract that runs until the summer of 2023.

Reds sporting director Michael Edwards is currently on a contract extension spree after renewing deals for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

And according to The Athletic, Liverpool want to extend Salah's contract by a further two years until 2025 in a record-breaking deal for the Merseyside club.

The reported deal means Salah would hold that contract until he is 33 years of age and would extend his Anfield career to eight years. Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk is currently the Reds best earner on a reported £220,000-a-week deal.

The 29-year-old has scored 126 goals and registered 49 assists in 204 matches since making the switch to Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017.

Salah made an immediate impact at Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in all competitions in his debut season, while he ended last year as the Premier League Golden Boot runner-up with 22 strikes, one behind winner Harry Kane.
