Labour Unrest: 'The Lecturers Must Be Applauded' - Kwesi Pratt Commends UTAG For Having Patience

Seasoned Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has lauded the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) over their decision to call off their strike.

The UTAG has agreed to suspend their strike action after a series of consultative meetings with the government and the National Labour Commission.

The parties' consensus was revealed in a joint-statement by the Minister of Education and UTAG President.

" . . whilst the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in conjunction with the National Labour Commission (NLC) is taking steps to DISCONTINUE all legal processes (i.e., National Labour Commission vs. University Teachers Association of Ghana, Suit. No. IL/0116/2021) against UTAG, UTAG will also take steps to SUSPEND the on-going strike action;

"That government acknowledges the need to improve the working conditions of University Teachers and shall treat this with all the seriousness it deserves," the statement read.

Speaking on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', Mr. Pratt commended teachers for being patient and understanding despite their poor conditions of service.

According to him, 'the lecturers must be applauded. They really have patience. They started writing reminders from April but nobody would pay attention to them, so they have really done well. They've shown that they love their country''.
