Carpenter Charged For ‘Indecent Assault’ On Girl, 7

A carpenter, who allegedly inserted his finger into a seven-year-old girl’s genitals, has been arraigned at the Adentan Circuit Court in Accra.

State prosecutors told the court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah that the act caused the victim to bleed, and that a medical form has since been issued for the victim to seek medical care.

The accused person, Francis Avugla, has been charged with indecent assault.

He has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The presiding judge admitted Avugla to bail in the sum of GH₵200,000 with four sureties, one to be justified.

Per the bail conditions, the sureties are to be known to the police.

The prosecution was represented by Inspector Gloria Ayim who held brief for Superintendent Patience Mario.

Prosecution’s facts

The facts as presented by Insp. Ayim were that Avugla resided at Kwabenya in an uncompleted storey building.

The prosecutor said at about 4 p.m.of July 30 this year, the victim attended nature’s call in Avugla’s house.

She said while the girl was leaving, Avugla lured her and put her on the floor of the uncompleted two storey.

She added that Avugla then removed the girl’s underpants and inserted his fore finger into her private part several times.

The prosecutor told the court that Avugla subsequently asked the girl to buy him a sachet of water.

Ordeal

However, on her way back the girl met the complainant and disclosed her ordeal to her.

Later that day, the prosecutor said, a neighbour saw the victim who was bleeding standing by a public washroom facility.

The complainant was informed, which led to the arrest of the accused person.

The case, according to the prosecutor, was then reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
