NRSA Deserves Commendation And Our Support - RoSAG
The Road Safety Advocates of Ghana (RoSAG) is encouraged by the posture of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) for demanding positive action from Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDAs) in respect of unlawful use of tricycles.
Last week, the Authority had issued directives to six municipalities to cease their endorsement of unlawful and unsafe use of tricycles for fare-paying or passenger purposes forthwith.
While the Authority is ordinarily exercising its mandate, it bears mentioning that it is uncommon in our kind of environment for a public institution to bare its teeth at another public agency for unsafe practices or wrongdoing.
This singular act by the Authority led by Ing. Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, gives us the comfort that the NRSA will give meaning to its new mandate of holding institutions accountable to road safety standards.
RoSAG commits its support to the Authority as it embarks on reforms to help turn the curve on road traffic casualties. RoSAG will seize the opportunity to urge well-meaning corporate citizens including the Ghana Journalist Association(GJA), Ghana Institution of Engineering(GhIE), Ghana Institution of Safety and Environment Professionals (GhISEP) and particularly Ghana Medical Association (GMA) for their exposure to the burden associated with managing road traffic crash victims, to speak up in support of efforts at operationalizing the new agenda or mandate for road safety.
RoSAG will continue to advocate for global best road safety standards, including safer vehicles for public transportation to help improve road safety for all.
