MMDCE List Was Leaked - Punish Them

Dr Richard Fiadomor the president of the Chamber of Local Government says those who leaked the report of the National Vetting Committee for MMDCEs must be punished.

He said the leaked report of the committee has put the president in a very tight corner and that has culminated into the open disagreements that have greeted the release of the MMDCEs list.

Speaking with Nana Yaa Mensah on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (20 September), Dr Fiadomor said, “We are happy about the fact that list of the MMDCEs is out but we know that beyond the president there’s a process that we have to undergo to make sure that the president’s nominees are confirmed. So clearly it means that more work will now have to be done.

“Now it is not about the president any longer but the people who have been nominated to do what is needful to make sure that they win the heart of the Assembly Members in their respective districts so that we can have a smooth sailing endorsement as and when it does begin. It is going to not less three weeks for the confirmation to start across the country.”

Leaked report

“…So now they have put the president in a very tight corner because …the president is not bound to go by the recommendations of the committee. So now that we know that the president is not bound by the recommendations of that committee it was very improper for the list to have come into the public domain.

“If you look at what happened in Tema Central it was because in the earlier list everybody saw that one Charles Boateng was the one who has been recommended and the person who has now been nominated came third, so the question is what went wrong?”

He added, “I think that the position they have put the president is most unfortunate. Whoever leaked that particular report must be punished because the position they have put the president is very bad.”

The list

The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, on Sunday released the full list of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executive (MMDCE) nominees at a press conference in Accra
