CAF Confederation Cup: Hearts of Oak Bundled Out of Competition By Algerian Side

Ghanaian side Hearts of Oak has been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup following a 4-0 loss to Algerian side JS Saoura in the second-leg tie played at the Stade 20 Août 1955 on Sunday evening.

The Ghanaian double winners suffered a 4-2 aggregate loss and their participation in CAF interclub competition in the 2021/22 season has now come to an end.

Hearts conceded two goals in the first half in a lopsided affair in which the Algerians totally dominated and outclassed the Phobians.

Abdeljalil Saad opened the scoring for the home side on the 21st-minute mark following some poor marking from inside. Sixteen minutes later, 26-year-old forward, Oussama Bellatreche netted the second goal from another setpiece as the Phobians continue to receive the fire from the Algerians.

The second-half did not travel for more than 4 minutes before Oussama Bellatreche registered his second goal of the afternoon as he fired home from an unmarked space.

Afterward, Hearts came into the game strongly and possessed the ball in the midfield with the hope of netting the vital consolation goal that could have pushed them through to the group stage of the competition. But, Aimen Abdelaziz Lahmeri nailed the coffin of the Phobians as he dribbled his way past the Hearts of Oak keeper and shot into the near post with a powerful effort to eliminate the 2004 winners from the competition. The strike from Lahmeri was his 4th goal in 4 appearances for Saoura this season.

Samuel Boadu and his contingent are expected back in Accra on Friday.
