Needless!!! Nana Akomea 'Barks' At NPP Presidential Hopefuls Mounting Big Billboards

STC Chief Executive Officer, Nana Akomea, has rebuked the people behind the mounting of billboards of Presidential hopefuls for the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the leading members who have allowed themselves to be on the billboards.

Contributing to Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme Tuesday, Nana Akomea said it's needless for the party's members and supporters to begin campaigns for who becomes the next Presidential candidate after President Akufo-Addo to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.

The NPP will on Saturday, December 18, 2021 hold a conference at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, to deliberate on party matters.

Ahead of the conference, the leadership has warned their members and supporters not to mount billboards nor campaign for any person.

“Prior to and during the conference from December 18 to 20, 2021, no billboards and or signboards, banners or any kind of outdoor signage with the images and or names of individual members, with or without the consent of the individual, shall be acceptable. This applies to the area within the Greater Kumasi Metropolis. All such displays, if put up already, should be removed,” a statement by the party read.

It continued; “Any person, with or without his or her consent, whose image is flaunted on any advocacy material and who does not take active steps to desist from any public display of aspiration for a position within the precincts of Greater Kumasi runs a higher risk of disqualification in the event nominations are declared open.”

This notwithstanding, there are reports of billboards showcasing some leading members of the party for Presidential positions being mounted in Kumasi ahead of the conference.

Nana Akomea, reacting to the issue, is calling on the 'big names' on the billboards to bring their camps to order.

"Many of these people mounting these billboards are the same ones telling Ghanaians to tighten their belt; that they should accept the e-levy, so we can work with it. You are telling us to tighten our belt and doing these big billboards. So, that doesn't help the party. It doesn't help the government. It doesn't help you. They should pull the brake."

To him, such things will disturb the NPP's fortunes, so should be stopped immediately.

"They are all trauma to the party; it's needless. Focus on your work and do it effectively. When you have efficiently done your work well, that will be your testimony. That's what you can use to market yourself," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
