GFA Communications Director Dispels Rumours of 'Juju' In Black Stars Camp During AFCON

Ghana Football Association (GFA) communications director Henry Asante Twum has dismissed rumours Black Stars players used black magic popularly known as 'juju' during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

“We all have beliefs as individuals. There was no day that I slept before 3 am. And I didn’t hear any Mallam chanting. No Mallam was hired for the Black Stars. There is no chance that juju exists in the Black Stars. The players have their individual beliefs and we can’t stop them,” he said.

Ghana suffered a shock first round at the just-ended tournament, in which Senegal were crowned champions after beating Egypt on penalties in Sunday's final.

The four-time African champions did not win a single match and claimed one point from a possible nine to finish bottom of their group.

Black Stars opened their campaign with a defeat against Morocco, drew with Gabon and then were stunned by debutants Comoros 3-2 - a defeat that confirmed Ghana's first group stage exit since 2006.

As a result, Milovan Rajevac has been sacked and Ghanasoccernet.com understands his successor will be former Premier League coach Chris Hughton.

Black Stars return to action in March when they take on Nigeria in the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
