Be Careful! Don't Scandalize The Supreme Court!! - Nana Akomea To Critics

STC Boss, Nana Akomea, has taken a swipe at critics of the Supreme Court verdict in relation with controversies about whether or not a Deputy Speaker acting in lieu of the Speaker in Parliament  could vote during parliamentary proceedings.

On Wednesday, March 9, the Supreme Court settled this dispute by ruling that a "Deputy Speaker is entitled to be counted as a Member of Parliament for quorum" and can "vote and take part in the decision of Parliament".

But the ruling didn't sink well with some critics as they argue it's a mockery of justice.

To Former President John Mahama, the verdict smacks of mischief.

He stressed the Apex court has set a "dangerous precedent of judicial interference in Parliamentary procedure for the future" and perhaps the most perfervid outburst regarding the ruling is the comment from the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, who furiously described the court decision as "despicable" and a "sham".

Sam George, in a series of tweets, dared any person to try to implement the ruling in the Chamber of Parliament.

“The sham called Justice delivery in our Republic. Despicable!” he said in a tweet.

"Abi we all go dey the Chamber inside. Come and give the referee the ball to play some let us see. The sweetness of the pudding is in its eating," he added in a subsequent tweet.

Reacting to the criticisms, Nana Akomea warned; ''Let's not bastardize the institution of State because we disagree.''

He noted that one could disagree with the court decision but it's insulting to the integrity of the Supreme Court to purport there are ulterior motives behind the verdict.

"You can disagree but don't impugn motives to the Supreme Court or any other institution . . . Let's cricicize. Let's disagree but let's not impugn motives," he stated.

He expounded that anyone who doesn't agree with the ruling has the opportunity to seek review but it's a big no to scandalize the court because one objects to the verdict.

Nana Akomea made these comments on Tuesday's edition of Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo''.
