Evans Scott Deserves His VGMA Nominations – Artiste Manager Kofi Donkor

Artiste manager and husband of gospel musician Celestine Donkor has thrown his weight behind budding gospel musician Evans Scott after the later won nominations in the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2022.

The artiste has sparked conversations in the music sphere after his 2 nominations in the Gospel Song of the Year and New Artiste of the Year categories.

Many have wondered if he truly deserved the recognition with the debate that he came from nowhere to win the nominations.

The debate has been ongoing with many articles weighing on if it were good luck or hard work but the latest to put the rumours to bed is Mr Kofi Donkor.

Stating facts, Mr Donkor acknowledged the fact that Evans Scott’s Ma Pe K3 song has been topping Trace Gospel music for months, adding that, he is closer to attaining a million views with the visuals of the song on video-streaming platform, YouTube.

Taking to Facebook to address critics, he advised industry players to forgo the norm of pulling others down in moments when they are to be celebrated the most.

He wrote:

He is Evans Scott. He has done so well for himself in the year under review. His song Mapek3 was topping 3 charts on Trace Gospel for months. The same song has almost a million views of YouTube and doing so well on other streaming platforms.

It is sad to have colleagues try to rubbish his hard work on national television. I think we should help push some of these exceptional young guys up than make mockery of their hard work. I do not think this is the way to go, Mr Kofi Donkor said.

In this year’s 3Music Awards, Evans Scott was nominated along Malcom Nuna and the sensational Kwame Yogot among others in the Breakthrough Act of the Year category. Amazingly, he was the only gospel act in the category.

In the VGMAs, the young king has 2 nominations with Mapek3. He has been nominated in the Best New Artiste category with Sefa, Mona 4 Real and Black Sherif among others.

In the same award scheme, he is in the Best Gospel Song category with Celestine Donkor, Diana Hamilton, Joyce Blessing, Joe Mettle, Bethel Revival Choir, Obaapa Christy, Ohemaa Mercy, Akesse Brempong and Empress Gifty.  Indeed, the youngest in the category.

On UTV’s United Showbiz last weekend, fellow nominee and gospel artiste, Joyce Blessing, questioned how the young man found his way onto the nomination list since she had never heard of him.

But Mr Kofi Donkor reacting to it said: I honestly look forward to him winning gospel song of the year and new artiste of the year. In my opinion he deserves both. Gospel people eeeiii let’s support our own!
